In a recent Q&A session, Donnie revealed that he was initially hesitant to take on the role of Danny Reagan in the new series, which explores the Reagan family's move to Boston and their new life there. While one goal was to see Danny move to Texas, another was to follow a family in law enforcement in Boston, just like the Reagans. 'I really didn't think that would ever happen anytime soon,' he said. But when the series came to an end, Donnie's mind changed. 'Suddenly it was like, 'Do I really wanna do a spinoff?' I didn't know. And this idea was really good. And the script was really good,' he recalled. Donnie also discussed the challenges of introducing a new family and establishing a believable bond between Danny and his new partner, Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green.
