Evan Gendell’s Detroit-Inspired Brand Identities | Design & Creativity (2025)

Detroit's creative spirit shines through in Evan Gendell's captivating brand designs. His work is a heartfelt tribute to the city's vibrant culture and history.

Gendell's graphic design journey is deeply rooted in Detroit, his hometown and current base. His focus on identity, design, custom typography, and animation has led him to work with local clients, creating a unique dialogue of shared experiences.

For Spot, a food pop-up with a laid-back vibe, Gendell crafted a versatile logo. The large 'O' shape is a clever nod to both a dinner plate and a turntable, reflecting Detroit's techno music heritage. This logo is designed to travel, capturing the essence of Spot's block party atmosphere wherever it goes.

Superbloom, a local creative specializing in florals and event design, also sought Gendell's expertise. Here, he showcased the cinematic beauty of nature. "The Superbloom identity blends perfect geometry with organic spontaneity in florals," Gendell explains. By pairing simple geometric flowers with organic, flickering movement, he captures the essence of nature's dualism. The grainy, Super 8-inspired logo blooms like a sun-kissed flower, adding a warm, nostalgic touch.

"I find inspiration in fellow independent creators," Gendell shares. "There's a unique momentum in Detroit that encourages small businesses, knowing the community will rally behind you." Through his designs, Gendell portrays Detroit as a thriving hub of creativity and growth.

But here's where it gets intriguing: if Detroit's story was told solely through Gendell's tactile designs, you'd envision a city brimming with melody, playfulness, and an ever-evolving spirit.

What do you think? Is Detroit's creative scene as vibrant as Gendell's designs suggest? Let's discuss in the comments!
